User Manual
1. What is Equity?
Equity is your chance of winning the pot, based on your hand and the current board. It’s shown as a percentage out of 100%.
- Example: If you have 70% equity, you’re expected to win 7 out of 10 times in the long run.
- Your equity changes as the board develops (flop → turn → river).
- Use equity to decide whether a call, bet, or fold makes sense over time.
2. What are Poker Positions?
Poker is played clockwise, and your position decides when you act in each round. The most important position is the Button (BTN):
- The Button acts last after the flop — this is a huge advantage.
- It represents the dealer position.
Other common positions:
- Small Blind (SB) – immediately to the Button’s right.
- Big Blind (BB) – right of the Small Blind.
- Under the Gun (UTG) – first to act preflop (worst position).
- Hijack (HJ) and Cutoff (CO) – just before the Button.
Key Tip:
The further right from the Button, the earlier you act, meaning you have less information. That makes your position weaker.
3. What Are Player Archetypes?
In FlopKit, you can tag opponents with player types to simulate different play styles. This helps predict their tendencies and ranges. Here are the 4 core archetypes:
Tight Aggressive (TAG)
- Plays few hands
- Bets/raises aggressively
- Solid, balanced — often the best style
Loose Aggressive (LAG)
- Plays many hands
- Bets/raises constantly
- Unpredictable, often bluff-heavy
Loose Passive
- Plays many hands
- Calls a lot, rarely bets
- Easy to push around
Nit
- Plays only premium hands
- Folds everything else
- Very cautious — fold when they raise
Adjust your strategy based on how wide their range is, and how likely they are to bluff, fold, or call.
4. Your Stack (in BB)
This is how many big blinds (BB) you have. It's a crucial metric for understanding your effective stack size and making strategic decisions, especially regarding commitment to a pot.
To calculate it:
Stack size (in currency) ÷ Big Blind amount (in currency)
Example:
- If you have $200 in chips and the big blind for the current game is $2:
- $200 ÷ $2 = 100 BB
Always calculate this based on the current big blind of the game or tournament level you are playing. Use this value when FlopKit asks for "Your Stack (in Big Blinds)" on the Game Setup page. Understanding your stack in BBs helps in applying concepts like Stack-to-Pot Ratio (SPR) and choosing appropriate bet sizes.
